People sometimes say: “I don’t get anything out of church” or “I don’t really feel feed”…..We sometimes forget that it isn’t what we get out of church as much as it is what we put into it. We aren’t at church to be entertained or for a social club- but to worship. The Mass is the greatest way to worship! This is one of the greatest gifts God gives us. This great public prayer, or liturgy, is lead by our priest…more specifically our great high priest Jesus Christ. If we participate fully and give our whole heart- our hopes, joys, brokenness, thanks, gifts, failures, sorrows, distractions, and praise; we receive amazing graces and an even deeper love of God! If we don’t, sadly it might sometimes seem boring or empty and eventually lead to apathy or a loss of faith in God or the Church.
I encourage everyone to participate fully in the great liturgy of the Mass…but don’t let it end there. Use your gifts of time, talent, or treasure for worship of God. Preach the Gospel with your faith and works. Pray about it and ask yourself, “Is God calling me to a particular ministry?”
God may be calling you! At St. Joseph’s we have many activities for you to get involved in and share your faith through your works. You might be an alter server, or Eucharistic minister, or lector, or serve the poor, or even one of the most important- a pray warrior.
God doesn’t necessarily call the qualified…He qualifies the called!
Jesus changed the world with fishermen.
Don’t let fear or low self esteem rob you of the grace and the gift that God desires you to be.
